Definitely the putting the villains' soul/essence into objects. And old wise graybeard wizards.
Anything else?

Other than a mythical type story line.
They are nothing like each other.
At least to me.

How much does LOTR borrow from the bible and ancient greek and roman mythical journey epics?

this archetype has been around forever

They both borrow from other stories. Even ASOIAF borrowed from LOTR and other fantasy stories to some extent.

I actually googled it after posting the OP.
I agree they are pretty different. But some other things pointed out:
- Giant man eating spiders that have to be dealt with.
- Active and violent trees
- One article mentioned a sychopantic underling of the bad guy that had "worm" in their name. But 'm not sure who that is in HP (I'm not ultra familiar with it.
- Dementors were called kind of a more easily thwarted version of the Nazgul. But I think that may be stretching it.

I was watching these movies a while back with my, now ex, girlfriend and she loves them. I told her that it stole a ton from LOTR and we needed to watch those.

Tolkien didn't actually invent the quest storyline but he perfected it and almost all fantasy epics since LOTR follow that mold.
JK Rowling is pretty open about all she took from CS Lewis and Tolkien.
