"My" facts are based on the contractual agreements the SEC has with the various bowls.

What are your facts based on?

The only contractual obligation is the order on which the teams select, it has no bearing on which team they will select. You don't have a grasp on that concept apparently. The cotton can pick whoever it wants when it is it's turn to select so long as the school hasn't been selected by a bowl higher in the pecking order

Reality, maybe? Look at past rankings and bowl selections to see that the bowl selection committees don't choose strictly on rankings.

actual history and how the bowls have behaved in the past.

you don't even remember how LSU has gotten passed over after losing the SECCG? going to the Peach instead of something better according to their record?

damn you are dumb.

It's not just standings or rankings, it's the order in which the bowls get to pick the teams. The is less rigidity than OP assumes.

I'm guessing someone's said it 20x over the course of this entire thread (I ain't reading the whole thing) but it's that time of year and many people make the mistake you just made so it bears restating:

The # designation has nothing to do w/ how teams are "seeded" or how they finish in the final standings. It simply means a particular bowl falls in a pecking order as designated by the number. IOW, #6 means they get to select 6th. So while your reasoning is sound, for the most part, your facts are little off base.

I think the problem is not with your facts...I think it is with the intagibles that come up every year when it comes to bowl selection outside of the BCS.

Although I am not sure why people are thinking the Cotton wouldn't try to work a deal with the Cap 1 to get Mizzou. Although I guess any bowl would be happy with Mizzou assuming they travel at least decently.
