the writers are pure shite and Moffat has not remotely lived up to the promise of Blink & The Girl in the Fireplace.
Heck, I was thrilled to see Davies leave but now I long for him helming the show. Moffat is a better writer when that is all he is doing.
Agreed. The Deus ex machina on the show has gotten out of control, and the lazy stick of bad writing was beyond silly a few seasons ago. There have been some nice strings of good episodes during the Smith run, but overall it's much worse than when Davies was helming it.

Heck, I am still pissed at Moffat for pranking my arse in his first episode at the Helm.
Smith waves the sonic screwdrive over his head in the most ridiculous use to date and the thing blows up.
I was so fracking happy. I thought with that act, he realized the screwdriver was a lazy crutch and he was going to get rid of it.
Only to have the TARDIS create a new one at the end of the episode. He punked me. He punked me good and hard!

Deus ex machina
This is the absolute worst. They write themselves into a corner with over-the-top scenarios with no hope of resolution and then spend about a minute on a half-assed solution: Rose atomizes an entire dalek fleet, oh they're covered in void pellets so they get sucked back in, everyone claps their hands and the Doctor transforms from dwarf to angel and smites the Master with godlike powers, and the ever popular 'oh I can just remind myself to go back in time and start some solution a few hundred years ago so it'll be ready when I need it right now!'
The best episodes are always the ones that have simple/contained stories. The other stuff is over-the-top fanwank.
