I've been fishing for my whole life and just switched to a bait cast. I haven't done any research but when is it advantageous to use spinning vs bait cast and vice versa?
Throwing into the wind, deep popping corks, light weight baits, rookies in the boat

I have been using pfluger president reels and Berkeley lightning rods for about five years now and love every bit of it. Also Berkeley came out with a new rod I just picked up its a lightning rod shock. Works great for braided line!! And it's more sensitive than the older modles

I want a spinning reel to make it easier to throw a popping cork in the wind, especially with live bait. I like bait casting when I have to make targeted casts.
Exactly this. Spinner for corks. Baitcaster for accuracy.

shimano Sahara on a 7ft Abu Garcia vendetta is what I currently use and I love it. IMO any spinning reel more expensive than a Sahara isn't worth it.

A Pflueger Trion GX7 reel on a 6' 6" All Star rod from Academy. I bought four of these for this season. I don't know how well the reel will hold up, but I've heard decent things about them. For $70, even if it only lasts a few seasons, it's worth it to me. So far, I really like the set up.

I have a Shimano Sedona reel w/ 7 ft. Cabela's Tourny Trail iM7 rod...got it for $100 at Cabelas and absolutely love it. Fish pretty much only reds and spec.
