I went in with very low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised that it didn't completely suck. JL did well in a leading role.

FWIW I didn't read any of the books, so I'm not sure how much they left out or changed.

The violence was a little subdued (for kids to watch I presume), but definitely not as bad as I was expecting, they even showed blood. Can't wait to check out the next one in theaters.

I have to agree with you on this one.

I didn't see it in theaters, and wouldn't have seen it unless my wife hadn't rented the movie to watch it to the 20th time.

There's a good chance I actually may go see the sequel in theater next week.

It was a poorly made movie. The acting was pretty meh. There is no chemistry between anyone. The story is rushed and leaves some rather important details out. There's no actual hunger. The camera work was terrible.

I read the books. The adaption of the first novel was fairly accurate.

The books are marketed for "young adults" bit believe me when I say that they are incredibly violent. The movies could've easily been R rated had they not toned down some of the violence.

I liked the first and second books, and hated the third. It literally seemed like the author ran out of ideas and just buttoned up the storyline. Interested to see how that translates to screen.

Fair. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Good but not great but I don't expect great from that type of film.

The last book is utter crap sadly. Suzanne Collins had a lot of potential and basically ruined the series with Mockingjay.

It would be better for the third movie to stray from the source material.

I definitely plan on seeing Catching Fire though.

This is why.

The book is FAR AND AWAY better than the movie. I know most books are, but this particular movie did the book zero justice.

I also agree with the guy about the 3rd book. If you are reading the series just stop at 2 and make up a 3rd book in your head.

I had high expectations and the movie met them, very good popcorn movie.

I didn't either. I like discussing movies.

These threads always turn into "well the book is better blah blah blah". Zero fux given about whether or not a good movie strays from the book.

I thought it was very meh. Even looking past the fact that the idea behind The Hunger Games is dumber than the rules of Quidditch, the cinematography was boring. It was filmed in the same mountains that Last of the Mohicans was filmed and it may as well have been the woods behind my house in Calhoun.

Not Jennifer Lawrence's best movie, but it is an enjoyable popcorn movie.

I will probably be seeing the new one in theaters.
