I've thought about this to some degree.

In 2011 our first game was Oregon. Miles, the players, coaches, etc. all said that LSU prepared during the offseason much differently because of this.

The defense was essentially practicing against two offenses during practice to combat Oregon's speed of plays. It seemed to work whatever the hell they did so why don't we do this again...??? In the very least, our conditioning would be on another level as it seemed to be that year.

And this year our first game was TCU, which was supposed to have been a pretty good team this year. It's not as if we played the Idaho Vandals to start the season.

We open with Wisconsin, so even though it's not Oregon, we still have a statement game to open with. I love the 2014 schedule in terms of making the 4 team playoff in concerned. Perfect year for a somewhat watered down schedule.
