Yes they do. Not all that often and not usually first offense, but yes people go to prison for weed poss.

Yes, so he was taken to jail. And some poor folk sit in jail for months bc they lack the money for bond.

Why is all this appropriate? Why should an adult have a conviction and all these requirements? What would be appropriate would be for the government to mind its own business.

About 750,000 people so far this year really wish this was true. But since we contract out the prisons, misdemeanor possession jail-time has risen sharply---gotta have butts in the cots; they get paid per prisoner. It's human cattle.
