Who knows what Les could have done at that period cause LSU was pouring coins into the football program like never before.

Nick was good for LSU, but I don't think he was the only coach in the game who could have won big at LSU given all the positive factors that came into play at that time for LSU.

I am not knocking Miles ability. I just think Saban was the type of coach that LSU needed to get going. He was relentless unlike Miles and nothing else mattered to him but the team succeeding if only to feed his own ego. His approach is and always will be much more effective at building a program IMO.

That said, Miles' demeanor and methods fit well into what LSU needed after that phase, but a lot more was forced on Miles and his hands tied in the beginning including maintaining Jimbo and preventing him from hiring his buddy Bill Clay as DC.

I simply think Les' approach won't continue to work as the player leadership isn't there like it was instilled before and he's not the guy to instill it from scratch. I do think the guy would do anything for his players and they love him for that, but sometimes that isn't enough to succeed at the levels expected of him by most fans.
