Some buddies and I booked a mule deer hunt back in March and have been pumped about it sicne then. We paid a large deposit and have heard nothing but good from the outfit. Well we flew from Monroe to grand junction today, rented a car and drove over to Rifle, Co where we are staying at a hotel. We have been in contact with the outfitters several times throughout the year, everything is suppose to be good to go. Well this evening I started calling the people to find out details of where to meet and all. Waited around all afternoon and finally got a call back about 7pm. The hunt was booked as a 5 day hunt starting tomorrow (Wednesday) and lasting until dark Sunday. Immediately when the guy called something didn't seem rite. He said he would have some other guy call me with the details. When the guy finally called me he started asking me questions like "well when do y'all wanna get started"? So I'm like well I mean we don't plan on shopping around Rifle or something I mean I thought we would be hunting in the morning. After talking for a few minutes he tells me he will try to get us by noon and hopefully hunt tomorrow evening. Seems like this outfit has subcontracted us out and is screwing us. Hopefully it isn't as it seems but I guess we will see tomorrow.

As much as you want to beat someone's arse at this point, hold it in and give this guy a chance. Beat arse later if needed...

Does not sound encouraging.

You could tour the Magpul plant that is still in Colorado in your newly found spare time.

Just kidding. Good luck.

The group ahead of you probably decided to stay an extra night or the outfitters overbooked a night. Either way, you should be fine.... That happened to me on a hunt once but my group was the one that decided to stay an extra night and jammed up the flow of the next groups hunt.

This is one of my biggest concerns with booking hunts. Good luck. Hope it turns out great and your concerns are dismissed

Many guiding service are basically brokers for several different companies.

Not at all uncommon unfortunately. I hear stories all the time of folks showing up to hunt and the guide and their money are nowhere to be found. Hope things turn around for you.

Outfitters hire out friends to guide all the time. Dont be too put off by that, often the local guy knows the area far better than the outfitter does.

Is Tims Tools still there in Rifle? If so go there and ask about these guys, they will know.
