I have never shot one but seems like it would be awkward to shoot.
How is the recoil on this?

There is definitely a learning curve for handguns, especially those w/ long eye relief scopes. Learning to use the scope takes time and practice. Handgun scopes are set up for 8-10" of eye relief. I have to have an adequate rest. I've learned how to make do w/ all kinds of different rests in the field.
