I want something well made for less than $1000. I don't give a shite about bells and whistles. Just a solid rifle to kill some zombies with.
I don't know anything about the different manufacturers so which one's are decent and which one's are garbage?

Easy answer is build it for that price. However, I've heard good things about this one.

If you can stretch your budget a little bit you can get an AR from one of the best manufacturers. This BCM has cheaper furniture (stock, handguard, etc.) , but the guts are top notch.

I would go with one of the Wyndhams. Solid rifles in the $800 range. I like my SigM400 but they sre higher now.
