Not sure if this is true either. An AR rifle can be built into a pistol and an AR pistol can be built into a rifle. After that is get confusing on whether or not you can build it back into a rifle/pistol.

OP, there's probably a good chance you can cancel the order. If not you are fine. Just build it into a pistol. No laws broken.

I'm sure it's not the first time this has happened.

Anyone here ever bought from gunbroker?

It still says awaiting payment on my history. Does that mean I still haven't technically purchased this? I'm kinda freaking out here.

There is no registration.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the lower is what's registered with the ATF. If it's registered as a rifle, it must have a 16" barrel or a SBR permit.

Correct. IF it is an SBR. If it's just a regular 16" or longer rifle lower, there is no "registration." You just do an NICS check and you leave with it.

If the lower is registered as a pistol, it can have a shorter barrel, but can't have a stock (other than the buffer tube).

If the barrel is under 16" and the gun is considered a pistol, there is no registration with the ATF.

The problem is when you have a pistol upper on a rifle lower.

This whole scenario just shows how effing retarded the ATF laws are and how little basis they have in reality.

By the way, I think you'll like the MOE handguard and not want to get rid of it.

Once it runs through Gun Broker, I'm pretty sure it's ultimately up to the seller.

But as mentioned, I'm sure this isn't the first time this has happened. Tell them the situation and that you are relatively new to AR15s and I'm sure they'll understand.

I've always heard you can't buy an assembled rifle and convert it to pistol, but if you buy the lower without the upper it can be declared a pistol.

Just what I've heard, could be completely wrong though

This can't be true. An AR15 pistol is a short barrel upper on an "unregistered" lower.

That's why I think it is important to draw the distinction. If he doesn't get clearance from the ATF, it would be a felony to even assemble a SBR "just to test it". I just don't want to leave anything to this particular agency's discretion.

To avoid all this, either build a pistol with your upper, or swap the one you ordered for one with an equivalent 14.5"/1.5" upper and keep the overall length to at least 26", (with the stock fully extended, if adjustable or folding).

OK. Just got off the phone with the guy. He was super cool. He's gonna send me the same barrel but 16". Feeling pretty relieved right now.

Probably go with the one from Palmetto Propagandalf recommended. Looks like a good deal.

The guy was a corpsman out of Lejuene

Thanks. I'll do that.

Sorry Carson. You were really helpful. I'll support at the next reinstatement thread if it comes to that.

I strongly suggest you build if you are at all able. The available information resources are endless and it will give you much better familiarity, appreciation of and attachment to your creation.

I would go with one of the Wyndhams. Solid rifles in the $800 range. I like my SigM400 but they sre higher now.

I just finished a build. Test shot 20 rounds through it and already want to build another haha. I might be up to let go of it for your price range. Includes iron sights and solid optics.

You've already ordered an upper now, but when I was looking for an entry AR for <$1000 I bought a Smith & Wesson M&P Sport for $629. I've been very pleased with it.
