While we are aware our Homecoming field stencil is similar to the current ECU field design, this specific NC State stencil design was based on an existing and popular NC State merchandise design.
It was chosen, for a variety of reasons, over several other field design renderings we considered for our Homecoming game. The intent of this design was to prominently feature a traditional NC State Athletics logo popular with our alums (the Strutting Wolf), as we will do in other ways throughout the game, while also connecting to our current Athletics branding campaign (This Is Our State).
Additionally, while we certainly respect other field/court designs featuring state outlines (including the state of North Carolina), the concept of using state outlines and the logos of the respective state universities in field/court graphics is not new or unique to any one school.
