Consider how casualty adverse our society is with the current wars in the Middle East. The problem with war is that casualties are not just a side effect but a necessity. You have to be willing as a commander to risk the lives of your troops if you want to achieve the overall objective. If you are afraid to do that you get bogged down in a quagmire like we have done in Iraq/Afghanistan. Would Ender have been willing to sacrifice the transports if he knew thousands of people were really dying?

I haven't read the book in 5 or 6 years. But, I really liked the movie. My only complaint is that a lot of it felt very rushed. Or, is the book rushed too?
