the beauty of this game is that you can do exactly that......or you can go ubernerd like ajf and find faptops in the woods

DICE is trying to move lots of features to Battlelog, like the server browser and changing your loadouts. You can't even change your loadout in My Soldier in the game anymore...that's all done via Battlelog. You can change your kit in the game however you want once you join a server, though.
