They're ignoring that Vaan wasn't added into the game until they were more than halfway through the development cycle. Bosch and Ashe were set up to be the main characters of the game, but they forced Vaan in because they thought it wouldn't sell well without a young male protagonist. There's a lot of controversy in the development of the game, where the director was forced to step down from the project mid-way through (Yasumi Matsuno).

I'm of the opinion that Ashe is the main character as the entire plot revolves around her and she is the driving force behind the game.

For me, I think it's Zidane, Tidus/Yuna, and Lightning. You have a very good case for Yuna on FFX, but Tidus is actually important to the overall story that he can't be pushed aside like Vaan.
