I just finished watching the first episode. I thought it was ok, and I feel that the season has potential to get better.

But should the 4 girls be considered witches? They seem to me to be more like mutants with a superpower or something. They weren't chanting spells or conjuring up potions in order to do their tricks. They just did them naturally like a superpower. Now the headmistress was conjuring up potions, as did the voodoo lady. But I'd consider the girls as having a superpower, and not really witches.

I think they are special witches. Not just your run of the mill practicing witchcraft witches. Think about it, it's an actual trait they were born with, passed down from the witches before them. The supreme with encompasses most or all those powers. And I assure you Paulson will have some kind of "power" on top of her potion making. We've just yet to see it.
