serious question: the backbone is about as wide as the neck at the base of the skull (that's backbone too).
If you are not worried about the rack and are so certain you can hit the spine but avoid the back strap lying on the spine, why make two shots?
Just shoot them in the neck/head the first time.

As far as the OP great angle. That is the angle you are waiting on with a bow. Personally, I thought he hit a tad high though.

To much of a moving target. But yes, I used that shot many times before and it is not a 100% drop in there track shot. Just like trying to shoot them in the head. Yes, I had a few run off with just half of there snout left. on me.
