The CEO of Susan koman makes 700k a year, about 25% more than CEOs of comparable charities and only 20 percent of their budget goes towards actual cancer research....

That is a skewed stat IMO. Koman also probably brings in at least 25% more than other cancer charities. The 20 percent thing is shitty but a lot of big charities are like that, they have to play their employees and stuff. Plus although the cancer runs and adds and stuff doesn't go towards "cancer research", it definitely helps with awareness to the cause

The thing is with breast cancer is that awareness is needed more than research. If women get screened early and often, there are available interventions.

Actually, it kind of isn't skewed b/c their CEO is raking in the money.

quote:

"It's about a quarter of a million dollars more than what we see for charities of this size. . . . This is more than the head of the Red Cross is making for an organization that is one-tenth the size of the Red Cross," Ken Berger, the president and CEO of charity evaluator Charity Navigator, told NBC.

Brinker is outearning not only her equal at the Red Cross but those at several other large charities as well. Feeding America, the fourth-largest U.S. charity, pays its CEO about $409,000, according to Charity Navigator. Komen ranks as the country's 40th-largest charity, according to Forbes.
