That is true. I am not defending him in any way at all. I am just trying to clarify what our job is at games. I have also never had a problem with a official at a game. I am friends with most of them and we all get along.
And I could say the same about the police I have dealt with at games and to be fair a couple of years ago CPD had our backs when a fan from Natchitoches decided to show his arse following a ball game.
I've never had an officer at a game, when I asked him to ask people to move back say anything other than (to paraphrase) "no problem, how far back do you want them?"
The funniest was one night when I was having trouyble with a cameraman who thought the rules didn't apply to him - so I asked one of the deputies, for future reference if he would mind talking to the guy if the problem persisted.
He said "you point him out and his arse is gone, just let me know."

That's because we both want to work together and get through the game unnoticed.
Being unnoticed is the best thing for both the police and the refs. That means everything went smooth.
