Ok, this is what I've found out. Upgrade troops in both number and level. Upgrade the shite out of heroes by doing meaningless raping of dungeons. Also do as many arena events as you can to increase the level of the heroes. That sound about right?

at what level does upgrading the Town Hall become absolutley pointless? I'm at Level 9 now and I can't honestly see a reason to continue..
I hate that it takes freaking forever to upgrade the soldiers. Guardians are freaking pointless, even at level 5. The Hammer Dwarfs aren't any better unfortunately. I've just been upgrading my mana and gold refineries and vaults along with my walls.

I've learned the tree people are the best at defense if your going to be away awhile and gryphons best for offense.
I do arena for the gold coin things and the 10 a day for gems

keep upgrading. I think you get a total of 5 defense towers and troop bases from upgrading TH

get the griffins for attack. I see a lot of archer-unicorn and riflemen for defense.

also unstall/uninstall the free partner apps for additional free gems that count toward your "bought gem" bonus.

as you still have a lot of achievement gems to earn, i would burn 3k of those gems trying for top tier heroes. even if you only get 1 or two, you will be better off.

What is a top tier hero. Also I have a ton of heroes. I can stick some in the towers as garrison. Do I level those up first? Or do I use my "extra" heroes to consume and level up my good heroes attributes?

they have 3 "levels" of hero.
Ordinary - name in green
Elite - name in blue
Legend - name in purple - these are the best and what you should level as soon as you get them.

I don't have an exact answer for you here. I level the blues and purples and/or stick them in towers. It is a good idea to level them some before putting them in towers or they don't add anything to your tower.
now when it comes to consuming heroes, i consume all greens and duplicate blues i get. i have not gotten a duplicate purple yet so i am not sure what i would do if i got one.
