You go for the touchdown.
You are only 10 yards away. There is no guarantee you will be able to get down that deep after the onside kick, plus think about all the time you blew to get to that spot. You are going to kick the FG and then have to march all the way down to the endzone again? That would be stupid.
Score the touchdown.
Kick the onside kick and then you only have to go 20-30 yards to kick the field goal instead of having to throw deep passes and get it into the end zone.
