I was at all of those home games that season. The FSU game was sweet not just for the Orange Bowl, but also because Bowden had just begun to turn that program around the few years before and they were damn good. And I hated FSU.
LSU was just being LSU against MSU that year. I was beyond depressed after that loss. Then after that huge win in the fog - to lay down to Tulane the following week was ridiculous. People said that it was a letdown perfect storm b/c we already had the Orange Bowl bid. But we had lost to Tulane the YEAR BEFORE! Those guys should have gotten destroyed.
Still, Thunder and Lightning were amazing to watch. Gary James would run the sweep at the goal line and people would start screaming right when he got the ball b/c no one back in those days had that speed at LB or CB to catch him.
And I'll say it - when Barry Sanders came on the scene, I remember telling my dad "he runs like Hilliard."
