Planning on beating it down I10 to I55 in Hammond
and North. Any one have suggestions on alternates or must stops to eat etc.? Leaving on Friday early and staying in Starkville. Thanks

I would do 10 east to 171 up to Shreveport then 20 east to 55 north

Take i-10 East until you get New Orleans
then go to the French Quarter
then go to the French Quarter

Take the interstates as directed to Jackson. After that, you're on your own. Good luck.

On I-10 just west of Lafayette take the Cankton /Scott exit. Billy's and Best Stop for some good boudin.

Man that's a long way to drive just to hang out in Starkville.

the route you describe is a good one...be cognizant of the times that you will hit the larger cities, though as you don't want to hit br or jackson at rush hour...
depending on the traffic and the timing, you may want to take I-12 to cut a few miles off...also, if you happen to hit Jackson at rush hour, just hit I-220 and go around the city taking I55 to hwy 82 instead of lakeland (25)
Mississippi has a much better state highway system than LA, so you can go pretty fast on them...watch your speed, though as there will be a few troopers out snagging some gameday $...
if you have questions, just post and I will do my best to answer them...
