I went to that game, I think it was the first home loss for Port Barre in like 3 or 4 years. The Farmers took it to the Red Devils that night he. Went I the beat Iota and Mr. football Jason Miller.

I'm a Farmer Alum and have a son that plays for OCS.

It's the first time in several years that we played a team that was more physical then us. Union is very physical and should make a run deep in the playoffs esp. since they don't have to deal with JC, ECA, and CBA anymore

One more thing, Union is the ONLY public school to vote no for the split!

Yeah, that was the first time in a few years. I don't recall how long though. I've forgotten the score of the game. The Farmers were a very good team and I'm glad they won the title. One of their linebacker seemed to camp in our backfield most of the game and a running back that was built like a wrecking ball (really stout) had a good game.

We faced Miller in the '99 championship. We had Andrew Robin in the backfield, though he was a Sr. in '99 and went to McNeese as did Miller later. We also had Maurice Sonnier at linebacker, he went to ULM.

I'm a Red Devil alum under Coach Perron and Broussard. Football in PB is not the same without those two. I played HS football from '82-'85 and lost in the Regionals to OCS my Sr. year.

I give Union a lot of respect along with others in the NE we've played over the years in the playoffs: Oak Grove (semifinals '97), Sterlington, OCS.

One team I don't recall us playing is Haynesville. Back in the '80s we met a few players from their team and got to talking about the mutual respect for each other and would have liked to have played each other at the time.

Props to Union on the no split vote.
