Mangrove Snapper in Lake Borgne

I am flabbergasted...had no idea these things moved into the lake. Amazing day fishing. Beautiful weather and placed 2nd in the black drum and redfish category

Wow, never heard of snapper.

Jacks and Tarpon, but not snapper.

Catch em in the hot water canal that size all the damn time. Theyre like piranas upbin there.

I've caught them off the dock in the pearl before. Was shocked then too.

caught 6 there last summer right on the outside of delouts canal (however you spell it). all exactly 7 inches

we caught a bunch of them off the pier at Bridgeside a couple weeks ago

Lots of juvenile mangroves in the marsh this time of year. I've been catching them on artificial around fourchon.

I've caught them in the MRGO and at the Fourchon jetties over the years. They like structure, and apparently will come close to relate to it. That said, pretty sure that's not a mangrove snapper. We used to catch those at my grandpa's in Mississippi growing up-I think it is called a grunt. My grandpa used to say people in Mississippi liked to eat grits and grunts.

Yeah, that is a pinfish, not a mangrove.

Yeah I think young mangroves are very dark
