Even Alabama can't get its students to stay for a full game.

I'm telling you people, it's not just us. This is a soft generation. Football just ain't all that to them. And I don't necessarily think that's unhealthy.

"Looking up and seeing the student section in the upper bowl of Bryant-Denny Stadium only partially filled has become a familiar sight over the past few seasons, and while there are 17,000 seats in the student section, attendance has never broken 14,000, according to a November 2012 article in The Crimson White."

My 2 pesos:
1) Historically, TS is >>>> BDS. There's no solace for us that fans leave others early. TS should hold itself to the highest std.
2) The Admin is simply lost as for as preserving TS's mystique.

there are a lot of factors at play here, some of which are unique to LSU and some aren't.

The author pointing out that there just aren't as many opponents that get us up is true. The expectation level of the program is through the roof and really only Alabama, Texas A&M and maybe maybe maybe Ole Miss is going to get people excited.

On the flip side price, HDTV and lack of booze is affecting everyone in the conference, we are far from the only one with this issue.

All one has to do is drive through campus. Count how many heads have headphones or earbuds on. It IS generational, and the difference is that kids now days have to have constant entertainment. My kids can't get in the car to go to the store 5 minutes away without popping in a DVD into the player.

Kids now days are bombarded with media and entertainment, and any lul (rain, boring play, other interests) will shift that already extremely short attention span elsewhere.

Get off my lawn.

Nobody gives any shits about blowouts at any school across the country.

When I have tickets I generally stay they entire game to watch the 2nd string guys, or just cheer some more because I enjoy it, but I don't blame people who leave. Hell when I was in college and we were up a ton on some shitty team I would leave middle of the 4th when I started to get a little too sober, what is the point of staying?

No sports arenas stay full when the game is unquestionably over, it isn't just an LSU thing. Seriously, people who bitch about people leaving early are worse than the people who leave early. Fans will be there for the big games and they'll be loud. When it's a 30 point blow out or when the weather is shitty the fans won't show up and won't be loud. And that is a fact for the whole country, not just LSU

Huge arse tvs with crystal clear picture is changing it. Tickets getting higher is what's changing it (before you say anything, did everybody know people were giving away free tickets). You can watch just every single game worth it if you are in the SEC knowadays or are a huge team. The rest of the year should be packed save Furman.

Holy shite an "empty stadium" thread with some reason and calm...

I like the ATVS article, FWIW.
And yeah, BDS (and others) have the same problem.

The reason stadiums empty quick is because there is so much technology now.

If it's a blowout, you can get the rest of the game on your phone, radio, tv, internet, etc. You could be doing a bunch of other things instead of watching a boring blowout, and not really miss anything.

If the game gets a little boring, people start messing with their phones, texting others, making plans, etc.

Students were the only ones there for pregame.

Students weren't any different than the rest of the stadium

When I attended LSU, all I needed was my student ID to attend. 18 years old and you could buy alcohol. Even thought the teams were mediocre, I stayed for the whole game. Even games where Tulane handled our Tigers.

Come on folks, stay the entire game.

I'd like to see one full day that someone doesn't complain about fans leaving early thread or an Alabama thread, but then i guess it just wouldn't be the rant.
