Close. I saw a juvenile one once in a rice field near Holmwood back in the early 60s. It was about the size of an adult nutria but had large claws on its hind feet much like a squirrel. The front section however had a robust chest region like a black lab and floppy ears. The incisors were long and curved back like a javelina, with reddish brown mane.

We killed it and put it in a courtbullion.
