I've been rewatching the series in honor of Gandolfini's death, and season 3 just hit HBO on demand.

It frustrates me to no end that Melfi did not tell Tony what happened to her. Did she feel like she wouldn't be able to live with herself if she ordered a murder? Was it satisfaction enough that she could "have that a-hole squashed like a bug" if she wanted to? I guess with Melfi being the moral compass in contrast to Tony, the writers felt that in this situation she wouldn't succumb to the revenge that most people would condone.

Bugged me too at the time but I think that was the point, that she couldn't succumb to telling Tony.

Because if it was real life, a person as good as her wouldn't condone that murder.

Besides, I'd like to think it was her way of maintaining control.
She didn't give up to her desire to for revenge.
She did the hard thing and grinned and bore it.
