My take on the defense (tl;dr)

After taking a look at the box score, I feel a lot more confident in the defense going forward (not that they were a huge concern to begin with).
TCU was only able to complete 3 passes for more than 10 yards (11, 24, and 35), and it seemed to me we basically played nickel all night and rarely brought pressure. The four man rush did a very good job IMO, and handled the run well too.
I saw a lot of similarities to the plan used against WV in 11'. If you remember, in that game chief traded pretty stats to virtually shut down the threat of a big play or an established vertical passing game.
The game plan of giving them the short stuff/ forcing them to beat us on the ground played right into our hands, as LSU's offense was finally able to keep the ball.
Obviously there are improvements to be made, especially at LB, but I'm very excited about this defense going forward.
Tl;dr I think chief used a plan similar to WV and the defense will look more aggressive going forward.

D looked good.
got held a lot but made plays. Few mistakes and a dumb penalty but overall impressed.

TCU did not put up pretty stats.

Good post.
That 30 yarder was just a great sideline throw while Collins had solid coverage too. It was uncoverable.
Almost Mett-like

I think some of us forget that we had only three starters returning (Mills, Loston, and Barrow) - I know many saw considerable PT last year but it's still a fairly young D. We played OK on D and I expect us to get better.

Did we blitz at all last night?

My only complaint was Welter out in space. It seemed like every time TCU sprung a decent plant he missed a tackle.

13 of 19 3rd down conversions helped the offense, and the DEFENSE.
Time of Posession 36-24 minutes in favor of the Tigers.

I agree, I was surprised how little we brought extra rushers. But hey, I can't really complain with the results. D basically gave up only 13 points considering the KO return for TD and the turnover on our own 5.

I said in my thread that I'm glad we don't play Manziel for a while. Our D seemed just a tad hesitant when Boykin came in the game. With the accounting for his ability to run, we got sucked in or frozen a few times. But its game 1 and while we made some mistakes, it didn't kill us.
