FYI, the Pac-12 reversed this penalty and half-game ban, saying McCain should not have been ejected.

https://www.mercurynews.com/california/ci_24001070/pac-12-rescinds-targeting-ban-cals-mccain

quote:

BERKELEY, Calif.—The Pac-12 has ruled that California defensive end Chris McCain should not be suspended for the first half this week because a failure of the instant replay process led to his incorrect ejection. McCain was ejected in the fourth quarter Saturday against No. 22 Northwestern for targeting. Because the penalty came in the second half, McCain was supposed to miss the first half of the upcoming game against Portland State. But the Pac-12 said Monday that because of a technical failure of the replay process the play was never reviewed. Ejections for targeting that are confirmed by replay are not reviewable after the game by the conference. But because this play was not reviewed in the game, the Pac-12 was allowed to look at the play and determined McCain should not have been ejected.

The fishy thing is, they stopped the game to do an official review, and they said "after further review, the ruling on the field is confirmed." So it sounds like they lied because the replay equipment failed. And we lost our best pass rusher for most of the 4th Qtr. The game was tied 27-27 at that point.

It was a textbook tackle.

Then two pick 6's by Collin Ellis won the game. But all in all horrible call.

Good to see the conference do the right thing after-the-fact. It's still a sham that this effected the game.

On College Football Final, Rece Davis said it was a definite target and that he deserved the ejection. The people in the media can't even get this rule correct with the benefits of multiple replay angles and the refs are expected to get this correct in live gameplay?
