I do not get why Louisiana kids would want to go to Alabama, except for the fact that Saban comes in and makes them feel special and better than the other kids in Louisiana that didn't get an Alabama offer. He plays mind games.
Maybe LSU seems like the default position and some kids want to be different and special and Bama/Saban provide that?
