have you used that galangal? I've never tried it .. how does it differ from ginger?

I've honestly never used the powdered galangal. I go to the Asian grocery and get fresh when I need it. I don't think it's like ginger at all, other than a similar look. It's sort of woody tasting. Not sure how to describe it. Ginger has bite, I don't think of galangal that way.
