After the Cam Newton debacle, the NCAA has ZERO credibility to go after anyone.

Nice generalization. Are you assuming college athletics should have no rules and every player should just go to the highest bidder which is likely to forever perpetuate the natural order of the college football landscape which is basically taking us back to the days where teams can sign like 80 guys...but instead its just going to be money.

Longest. Run-on. Ever.

In summary, we need some sort of governing body to maintain order in college sports. People don't even realize how overwhelmed the NCAA already is. They can't even come close to stopping half the violations that take place already. So if they happen to catch one of these you can sure as hell bet they're going to make the most of it to deter others from risking it, even though the probability of them getting caught is low. The NCAA criticism really is ridiculous to me. They don't have near the power people make them out to have.

Re the comparision to Ohio St, the big difference is that the HC knew what was going on & covered it up. As to what the players were doing, not much difference beyond the fact that JM went to these brokers' hotel rooms, signed & got paid cash.
