I agree that there are some athletes overlooked soccer because of its lack of prominence, but people like Lebron, Garnett and others would probably not make it. They are too tall, which would make them clumsy on the ball. If a soccer player is 6'4, he's considered a giant. The players in other sports that are likely to be good at soccer are undersized point guards, wide receivers or cornerbacks. Even if they played their whole lives, with the way we teach technical skills, they would probably be middling pros.

Soccer is a game of skill and technique. That is in addition to all the other natural athletic talents that separate good players in other sports from average players. If you aren't good on the ball, I mean in the top 1%, you probably aren't going to make it. Even if you can control the ball, if you don't have the athleticism required for big leagues, like endurance, speed, strength, you probably won't make it.

Exactly. I really do not see how Lebron would be great. Maybe in goal or as a big arse cb who could come forward on corners and set pieces?

I want to believe Chris Paul would be amazing because he has the ball skills in the NBA, he is not too tall, vision that is too good for his teammates, etc. It is obviously with a ball in his hands, but it is fun to think someone like CP3 could do it.

Plus, without the infrastructure of the elite European nations, athleticism can only go so far. shite, we are already an athletic, well conditioned, and fairly big in size on the USMNT. The big dudes like Lebron do not have the right type of endurance either.
