I knew he worked out with the team, but did he actually enroll and show up at a class? I believe your clock is not started if you enroll, but then drop out before taking any classes. Otherwise, you are correct. He would be done at the college level.

You have to be enrolled as a full time student to start the clock. Summer school without football work outs doesn't start it unless LSU scholarship money was spent.
