the agent is in the service industry
he gets a % of that contract to provide this service SOLELY so that the player doesn't have to worry about it
that's why the agent gets paid
the payer is paying the agent handsomely to allow him to not pay attention. if the player was supposed to be bound to pay attention to all of these details, then he doesn't need to pay a service provider to do so

If the agent didn't inform him of a provision in his contract that made a difference of $2 million, then that is all on the agent.
