Really the only thing that changed was the desire for each new school to have a marquee cross-divisional home game in their first season. Hence, the marquee team from the East (Florida) went to A&M, and the marquee team from the West (Alabama) was sent to Mizzou. The rotation has stayed as close to the same as possible with the addition of two new teams.

Now that's just a convenient way of looking at it, if your team benefitted from such an arrangement. Obviously, those games played were not the only thing that changed.

Just using this word when forming a schedule that should be fair and equitable to determine a worthy champion should tell you all about the motives.

I'm sure Missouri's players, staff, and fans wanted Alabama out the chute, and A&M the same with Florida. This was the mantra of the conference, cashing in on new markets, in order to first satisfy itself, secondly satisfy Alabama, and if anyone else ended up satisfied, more power to 'em.
