Exactly when have the Yankees done this recently?
ARod is one they resigned who had no business resigning but every other veteran signed recently has been short term and not a crazy contract.
Yankees are not paying Vernon Wells full salary, they would not pay Soriano's, Hafner is gone at end of the year, now they do have Cano/Granderson to resign at the end of the season. Probably will overpay on both

They need to sign and overpay.
If not, they have no franchise player/face of the Yankees. Plus their farm system is not rich enough to replace an entire outfield, Jeter at SS, Aroid at 3B and find a catcher
