So I just got certified and I am looking to go on spearfishing trips in the gulf. I know someone who can take me sometimes, but I have to wait and see. My question to you guys is are there any clubs, websites, charters, that divers can meet? I have money to put towards expenses, but no boat. Any advice is appreciated!

Is that something you want to do when you first learn to dive?

Observe a few times, get used to currents on surface vs below and diving in some low vis conditions, start small on fish and work up and don't be afraid to let go of a rig if you get in trouble. Live to shoot another day. Check local dive shops for charter trips and develop a network that way.

Rig diving in Louisiana is great and offers a lot of opportunity to spearfish. Just needs to be respected that's all. Enjoy it - not much else like it!

Learn to dive more than what your class taught you. Bring a camera, not a gun for a while. Read this
