not really. may would be a hypocrite if he was currently doing the same things. telling someone not to do something because you have past experience doing similar things and you understand how stupid it was does not make one a hypocrite.
You are wrong. May was speaking from a high horse.
It would be one thing if he said..."take it from me, who did similar things when I was your age..."
That's not what happened. May was arrested for far worse things at the age of 20. And then continued to make repetitive bad decision (back to to back DUIs) as a grown man in the NFL.

Yeah but thats not what Mark May did.
He simply sent out a tweet telling Manziel to stop "shaming the game". He didn't reference his past mistakes/experience or do anything but act sanctimonious.
Is Manziel supposed to know of Mark May's background by magic?
Does Mark May really think he is helping Manziel through a tweet or is he just calling him out?

He hasn't been arrested. there are no charges or accusations that he has broken any law.
Actually, he has.

Manziel was ordered to pay the maximum fine of $2,000, spend two days in jail and pay $232 in court costs as part of a plea agreement on Monday. The quarterback won’t have to spend any time in jail, however, as he was jailed following the initial arrest, which the court considered time served.
Police noticed Manziel and a black male involved in an altercation on June 29, 2012 in College Station. Police records show the dispute began after Manziel’s friend was accused of using a racial slur toward another individual. Manziel later handed officers a fake ID
Now, I think it would be insane to strip him of the Heisman and I don't have much problem with Johnny Football enjoying the hell out of being Johnny Football. But he has been arrested. And, now, convicted.
Actually, given the Advocate's track record this week writing columns about how terrible Hill is for a misdemeanor conviction and Mett is for skipping the Manning Academy... Manziel did BOTH of those things this week. I await the scathing column decrying him.
Oh, May is a sanctimonious gasbag, but pointing that out doesn't refute his point.

One could argue that his conduct merits stripping him of the Heisman...
This is part of the absurdity.
His only misconduct was before the 2012 season when he was arrested. I can understand the argument saying he shouldn't have won the Heisman because of that.
But ever since winning the Heisman, he hasn't done jack s*** to cause any issue.
Things he's been scrutinized for:
- Celebrating his Cotton Bowl win with his mom
- Going to pro sports games
- Playing golf at Pebble Beach with his mom & dad
- Going to a concert
- Tweeting that he was frustrated with College Station because of a parking ticket (If you've ever dealt with CSPD, you'd understand)
- Missing a morning meeting at an event that he volunteered at.
Wow. Now there's a solid basis for stripping a Heisman.

I don't understand what everyone's problem is with this kid. Hell, back when I was in college I was doing what every college kid should be doing, diving in and out of bars and painting the town red.
I get that he has much more responsibility than your normal college kid, but at the end of the day he's only hurting his draft stock.... so if he doesn't care, why should we care? The kids living the life, in my opinion at least.

I don't see the issue here. If anyone has the right to speak up to him on the issue, it's a guy who got into trouble himself.

Not since he won the Heisman, and thats what we are talking about. That was a matter of public knowledge and voters still gave him the Heisman. You think they strip him of the award because of that now? That makes no sense.

Sounds like your beef is with the Advocate. Instead of shitting on a college kid for having fun, go take your issue up with them.

Yeah if May had been public about his past, but he didnt reference any of his previous troubles so now it makes him look like a hypocrite.

He was only arrested at the time. He got convicted and sentenced afterward.
And the Heisman clowns set a terrible precedent by stripping Reggie Bush of his trophy, which is why I brought it up by saying, "one could argue". I did not say that I thought he would or should, just that an argument can be made when there are nebulous standards of conduct, etc.

I'm sure that at the time of voting for the Heisman, voters were smart enough to know that him copping a plea was a possible outcome.

Bush's problem with the Heisman was with eligibility. They didn't take back on any grounds of misconduct.
ETA and technically the Heisman trust didn't strip him of the award. Bush volunteered to forfeit it and the trust decided to just leave the award vacated for that year.

So should just stay in his house and not do anything?
Its grown men in the media that decide to follow a 20 year old kid on twitter, and then hang on every little word or action he makes.
With literally millions of people eyeing his every step, it is physically impossible to go unscrutinized.
Not at all. He's a college kid. But to go and look for the spotlight while drunk is shite is stupid on his part.
Kid could be costing himself alot of money with the way he's been acting recently.
There is and will be ALOT of money on his shoulders soon and do you think big money cooperations are going to want to drop cash on a drunk college kid?
Of course he's young and I expect him to enjoy college.....but as a Heisman Trophy winner and a possible 1st round pick, as much as you or anyone here or on your ags board want to believe, he has to portray something different than what he's doing now.
Perception is real. He wanted the spotlight. He wanted the success. You have to give up a few things to earn that success. Partying like a NORMAL college kid and handling situations like NORMAL college kids is one of those things he's going to have to give up.

Talk about stripping him of his Heisman is ludicrous
I agree Manziel needs to think before he puts shite on social media (or just quit it altogether) and still has a lot of maturing to do.
Talk of "shaming the game" might be taking it a little far, and as an A&M fan I don't care as long as he continues to win

eh......obvious typo. Thanks for catching that and not taking it literal....at all.

Manziel is a fricking douche though who's going to get his world rocked this year bc he thinks he's Gods gift to football.
I hate a douchebag as much as the next guy but I don't really see him that way. I see him as a Rob Gronkowski-type. Just enjoying his fame and fortune while he still has it. Nothing wrong with that. I haven't heard him pulling any douchey "I'm the BMOC" type bullshite. He's a young man that's enjoying what he has while he has it. He's not robbing banks or slapping nuns. He's a young adult having some fun.
Let the guy have his fun.

I think Manziel will be ok.

I understood it was a typo. Your post was full of them. I viewed it as a Freudian slip as well.

He partied harder last offseason. No followed him around with cameras and microphones though because nobody knew who he was. I'm not that worried
