I am replacing a boat trailer axle hubs and bearings on my fishing boat trailer. My question is would a 3500 lb. axle be better pulling than the 2000 lb. axle?

I'm no expert but I don't think one would pull any better than the other. It's just the weight the axle is rated for. I don't think you would notice any difference until you went from a single axle to for example a tandem axle.

More importantly, what type of hubs will the axle have. I strongly recommend ones that grease from the rear bearing to the front for ease of maintenance. Also i think there is one called victor that is several years maintenance free.

Not any better for pulling. The idea is to have a "beefier" axle and bearings, resulting in slower wear by the lighter boat that could be towed on a 2000 lbs. set up.

I did this exact thing on mine... I think the dipping it in and out of water and not regreasing often enough tears them up more than weight.
