Yes .. It is pretty easy to pass the PAT. When I was in the business, the day I had my PAT I left my putter in the hotel room on accident. Putted for 36 holes with a wedge and cruised through.
Eta: depending on the course, if you can break 84 or 85 your good to go.

I've never had to do it, but it seems like it would be easier to putt with a metal wood than a bladed wedge.
