I've both eaten at Dorrian's and been this guy:
we had a big group of us and had a great time. but yeah it can certainly become a weird mix of fratty douches and bridge and tunnel douches some times.
it was right around the corner from my buddies' place and if we were hanging in their neck of the woods we usually ended up at Dorrian's or Rathbone's. Also right there is Biddy's and Auction House which are good neighborhood bars.

auction house was on my street
i lived on 89th and 2nd and i walked by there everyday for a few weeks before i found out it was a bar and became my spot.
i know the upper east gets a uncool rap, but i liked living up there it was peaceful. just sucked paying cabs b/c i mainly went out downtown.
you're right, i'm way cooler than that place will ever be.
