I felt like the skill trees in BL2 made a bigger impact, or they at least felt like they made a bigger difference.

They cleaned them up a lot. BL2 is, overall, a vastly superior product to BL1. I played siren in BL1, that's why I liked it better. It was also kind of a broken character.
