The 80's had tons of movies that fit this bill. For me, I'd put 16 Candles above Breakfast Club, just because it shows more personality types.

I'd tend to agree with Can't Hardly Wait for the 90's in terms of teen movies...though since I'm a little older Singles was my 90's movie.

Singles, Reality Bites or Empire Records. you can't go wrong with any of them but they capture the early 90's whereas Hardly captures the late 90's and they are totally different
