Went all the time growing up, it is a great place to hike, camp and fish - Beautiful country. Just make sure you watch the weather, flash flooding is no joke in that area. If you are willing to walk a little way and camp from a tent you can have entire sections of the river all to yourself.
I can't specifically speak to fly fishing, we always used light spinning reels and corn for bait. We mainly caught trout and some of them were good size. I am sure you could do very well with a fly rod. Definitely worth the trip to explore in my opinion.

It may be hot for trout, but smallies should be around. Tiny traps getzit or shiners should do the trick.
