it was pretty bleak because saban left us at a terrible time
a month or so earlier and LSU would have had Spurrier
To this day, I still think we could have kept in Baton Rouge if Bertman would have opened the pocket book a little more. He didn't realize what he had there and tried to be cheap. (Same reason he let Tiger Stadium degrade to an embarassing level)
I distinctly remember him saying that LSU "Wasn't going to get into a bidding war with the Dolphins for Saban." Blame Skip for that (Should have went to TAF and come up with a much better package) and blame for prolonging the agony far too long. It takes Two to Tango.
While all that nonsense was playing out, Florida hired Urban and USCe hired Stevie Visor, both of whom LSU could have procurred the services of, or least had a legitimate shot at.
Everything worked out fine though, since our AD and so many LSU fans are OK with just "Competing for Championships", two loses a year, Chicken Bowl's and yearly game management fiasco's on National Television. That's OK. We're arse kickers at "Competing."
Meanwhile, over to the Northeast a little ways, it's 3 out of the last 4 and counting.
Cam Cameron to the rescue, hopefully!

Looks like Les has put some skins on the wall. Maybe you should take a tour of the Football Operations loby.

Sabah used MSU and LSU as steeping stones to obtain a job in the upper level of his profession.
He realized NFL players have the upper hand on most coaches and can't be bullied so he came back to college.
He wanted to coach an upper level college overall program and let's not kid ourselves those would be Ohio st, Alabama,ND, Penn st, and FSU and out of those 5 programs only Alabama was looking for a coach.
Sabah can now be compared to and maybe surpass the bear thus cementing his name in college football lore. What legendary coach would he surpass at LSU that was as wide known and respected through out the country.

Spurrier, who mentioned only won 1 NC at Florida, otherwise they were just competing for championships.

This is really Les Miles greatest sin, he's not Nick Saban, who when all is said and done may go down as one of the top 2-3 coaches of all time. 3 of 4 happened one other time in the modern era. That was Tom Osborne, who didn't win his first until he was on the job for over 20 years, in other words for 20 plus year he was "jsut competiting" for Championships.

But but but "remember the 90's"!
