What do you want to catch?
Sheephead? Get a jig head and put a piece shrimp on it and hit any platforms that you come across (just outside of bridge side). From to the opposite the island from BridgeSide and hit the platforms there.
Bull red? Get some cut bait(mullet, etc) and drop it to the bottom in the pass or along the beach.
Trout? Hit the jetties like everyone said
Reds? Back bay

Buoys are gone on independance island. Only lasted 1 summer. U can run the channel behind the island with no trouble. Can also start at the rocks and work your way down them. Usually pick up at least a few At each set. Also the wellheads in the bay are hit or miss, but a small head can hold a lot of fish
