if it were for a free, i might consider it just because it's low risk. but his preferred position is one that Rambo and maybe Jack and Ox are better in already. he was pretty good to very good in that role, but i don't think he's good enough to displace any of those three. i'd rather not have him in that logjam.

i don't think he's acceptable DM or CB cover, honestly. i wouldn't feel particularly comfortable with him in either of those roles. we keep saying if he was disciplined as if we haven't been saying that about him for years. at some point you begin to wonder if it's possible.

for free, with little risk, sounds like a good deal to me. if we have to pay even half of what we sold him for, i think the money would be better spent elsewhere.

I mean, there were games where he was disciplined. In 09/10 he rarely went forward when we played a single pivot. When we moved to the double pivot he roamed forward, but the problem was he didn't have the stamina to roam back.

I don't think he would come back honestly. And Wenger wouldn't ask him to be disciplined. Flamini and Arteta are discplined, but for different reasons. Flamini loves tackling and running around, and Arteta's injuries have turned the once magnificent winger into a stable DLP who does his damnedest to stay in position for fear of being caught out due to his pace.

At CB Song's ability to pass out of the back would be important, especially as we play a high line anyway. I mean, I don't think he'll come unless he's on a free.

Speaking of which, Mertesacker's passing ability have improved tremendously since he arrived here. God I remember when he first came his first pass was five yards to either the fullback or the deepest midfielder. Occasionally now we see him make a 1st station pass through the 1st line of defense, which is always surprising to see since they usually seem to work. Probably having the Germans there helps with that.
